Lesson 1- Don’t hire this guy to teach your kids to play basketball

Fun guide to helping parents find a basketball trainer

• • •

I want all parents to be able to find the right coach for their child. It’s not always easy, so allow me to help out.

I started coaching youth basketball the summer after my first year of college in 1995. My cousin asked me to help him coach this team of 8-9 year olds. He was a track guy and knew very little about teaching the game, so he asked me and I said yes. I knew I wanted to be in basketball because I always loved watching and playing the game. But coaching really spoke to me and over 20 years later I’m still coaching youth basketball(I even coach adults now). I’m a certified (yep I got certified and everything) player development specialist and I started my own basketball training business in 2017. I have a ton of tips to give parents looking for personal coaches for their kids. Like, not hiring that guy from above. Also, asking the right questions while interviewing potential coaches. And most importantly knowing the game and figuring out what skills the coach has that can help your child maximize their potential. I’m looking forward to helping as many parents as possible. Tell your friends to check me out. Let’s build a whole community of knowledgeable basketball parents together!
